Evaluation Guideline: The Basin Plan states: "Where valid testing has developed 96-hour LC50 values for aquatic organisms..., the Board will consider one tenth of this value for the most sensitive species tested as the upper limit (daily maximum) for the protection of aquatic life... or [O]ther available information on the pesticide..." Data Used to Assess Water Quality: Eleven water samples collected by the Southern San Joaquin Water Quality Coalition from Mill Creek (Fresno County) were analyzed for ammonia as N. The analytical results were averaged by pollutant, sample date and sample location before they were assessed.
There are 11 dates for which ammonia as N data and contemporaneous pH and temperature measurements are available and for which the Criteria Maximum Concentrations (CMCs) could be calculated. One sample had an ammonia as N level above its reporting limit and the sample did exceed its calculated CMC. Ten samples had ammonia as N levels below their respective reporting limits; however, none of the reporting limit values exceed their respective calculated CMCs. None of the 11 assessed ammonia as N sample results exceeded their respective calculated CMCs.

Evaluation Guideline: Toxicity is defined as a statistically significant effect in the sample exposure compared to the control using EPA-recommended hypothesis testing.
