The evaluation guideline for the protection of aquatic life from the additive effects of the organophosphate pesticides chlorpyrifos and diazinon is one toxic unit equivalent. A toxic unit equivalent is equal to the sum of chlorpyrifos and diazinon from a single sample, each having their reported concentration divided their respective evaluation guideline prior to being summed. Five of the eighteen samples exceeded the evaluation guideline. Toxicity data was not reported with a control, therefore anything reported as <100 (chronic) or <100% survival (acute) was considered an exceedance. None of the seven fathead minnow chronic-survival or -growth tests were less than 100 (0 of 7 exceedances). The ceriodaphnia chronic survival test had two of six at less than 100, and reproductive tests were reported at four of six at less than 100 (grouped as 4 of 6 exceedances). One of the six acute tests on the fathead minnow were at less than 100% survival (1 of 5 exceedances).

Water Quality Objective/Criterion:

Toxic pollutants shall not be present at levels that will bioaccumulate in aquatic life to levels which are harmful to aquatic life or human health. No individual pesticide or combination of pesticides shall be present in concentrations that adversely affect beneficial uses. There shall be no bioaccumulation of pesticide concentrations found in bottom sediments or aquatic life.
