Coastal Bioaccumulation Monitoring Surveys

The Bioaccumulation Monitoring Program’s coastal surveys have focused on the sampling and analysis of sport fish in a two-year screening survey of bioaccumulation on the California coast. The study evaluates two closely associated habitat types (the coast, & bays and estuaries) to evaluate the current fishing beneficial use status. This effort is part of a long-term comprehensive study of bioaccumulation in California water bodies and occurs every 10 years. Monitoring occurred in 2009 and 2018 in southern California zones and in 2010, 2020 and 2024 in central and northern California zones.
