Amended CAO for Desert View Dairy, Hinkley, San Bernardino County

Overview

Since 2008, the Water Board has issued Cleanup and Abatement Orders and amended Orders to past and current owners/operators of the Desert View Dairy (DVD) in Hinkley, San Bernardino County. These Orders, available below, required the Dischargers to conduct investigations regarding nitrate and salts pollution originating from the dairy operations and waste disposal practices. Replacement water for domestic wells affected by nitrate pollution was also required. This amended Order proposes to:

Expand the affected area for the purposes of domestic well sampling and replacement water requirements;
Require replacement drinking and cooking water supply (i.e., bottled water or equivalent) for all domestic wells in the revised affected area with concentrations above primary or secondary Maximum Contaminant Levels for constituents of concern, including total dissolved solids, chloride and sulfate;
Require a plan and schedule to provide whole house replacement water for all domestic wells in the revised affected area with constituents of concern above primary or secondary MCLs, and
Provide more specific reporting requirements for domestic wells.
