The State Water Board approved two separate, but related, actions at the 20 January 2015 Board hearing to provide a groundwater regulatory framework and a policy for implementation towards closure of the Royal Mountain King Mine Site, a former open-pit gold mine in Calaveras County. The actions were: 1) adoption of a new, site-specific exception to the Sources of Drinking Water Policy ("Policy Revision"); and 2) approval of an amendment to the Water Quality Control Plan for the Sacramento River and San Joaquin River Basins ("Basin Plan Amendment"). On 19 May 2015 the Office of Administrative Law approved the Policy Revision and the Basin Plan Amendment.
