| Project Name: |
Bay Farm Island Southern Shoreline Storm Repairs |
| City/County: |
Alameda, Alameda County |
| Comment Period: |
4/14/2026 - 05/4/2026 |
| Project Description: |
Following the strong storm that moved across Northern California December 14, 2024, with large waves, strong winds and heavy rain, the City of Alameda experienced severe shoreline erosion in a number of locations. The higher than expected King Tides and storm surge eroded portions of the southwest side of the Bay Farm Island dike. This is the side that experiences the highest wind and waves in the Bay. The Bay Trail south of the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal needed to be closed as large chunks of trail had broken away. Existing rip rap was washed away or slumped down towards the water leaving exposed sandy soil along the shoreline, which was highly vulnerable to continued erosion. The project purpose was to repair and replenish existing rock slo e rotection. |
