Project Name:

Surfer's Beach Slip Out Repair And Stairway Replacement Project EA 04-0X080 0424000028
City/County:

Unincorporated, San Mateo County
Comment Period:

8/6/2024 - 8/26/2024
Project Description:

The 2022–2023 storms wrought substantial damaged on the rock slope protection (RSP) and exposed numerous sections of the shoulder to erosion. Approximately 60 percent of the pedestrian path along a 35-foot section is eroded and is a hazard to the public. The stairs were the only developed access to the beach and are damaged beyond use. At numerous locations erosion is beginning to or is close to undermining the other sections of the path. Damage to the roadway, path, and stairs makes them unsafe and unusable. SR 1 is crucial to transportation in this region, acting as a commuter corridor and providing reliable access both to outdoor recreation and for emergency first responders. Repairs to the southbound shoulder, bicycle/pedestrian path, and the stairs are needed to restore the safety and reliability, ensuring regular access is maintained and always provided for the public and emergency first responders.
