Agriculture & Waste Management Unit
The San Diego Water Board's Agriculture & Waste Management Unit is responsible for the local administration of the following statewide regulatory programs.
- Commercial Agriculture Program. The Commercial Agriculture Program regulates agricultural and nursery operations that discharge waste to surface waters and to land that may pose a threat to both groundwater and surface waters . The Commercial Agriculture Program regulates any agricultural business or trade activity, including farms, nurseries, and orchards, that produce crops or ornamental plants with the intent to make a profit.
- Land Disposal Program. The Land Disposal Program regulates landfills, composting operations, mines, and other solid waste facilities that discharge waste to land that may pose a threat to groundwater.
- Nonpoint Source Program. The Nonpoint Source (NPS) Program aims to minimize NPS pollution from land use activities in agriculture, urban development, forestry, recreational boating and marinas, hydromodification and wetlands.
The Agriculture & Waste Management Unit also supports the work performed by the South Coast Cannabis Program Unit. The South Coast Cannabis Program Unit is based in Riverside at the Santa Ana Water Board offices and serves the Santa Ana, San Diego, and Los Angeles Regional Water Boards. The South Coast Cannabis Program Unit is responsible for the regional administration of the statewide Cannabis Cultivation Program.
