Delta-Mendota Subbasin

On March 2, 2026, the State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board or Board) released a Staff Assessment of the 2024 revised Delta-Mendota Subbasin Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) for public comment. The purpose of the Staff Assessment is to inform interested parties and the State Water Board as the Board considers referring the Delta-Mendota Subbasin back to the Department of Water Resources for continued state evaluation and assessment consistent with Chapter 10 of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). State Water Board staff is recommending the Board return the Delta-Mendota Subbasin to the Department of Water Resources' jurisdiction.

If you are interested in submitting a written comment regarding the Staff Assessment or staff's recommendation, please email SGMA-DeltaMendota@waterboards.ca.gov and use the subject line: "Comments – Delta-Mendota Subbasin". The deadline for written comments on the Staff Assessment for the Delta-Mendota Subbasin is 12:00 noon on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Important Dates

State Water Board Meeting – April 7, 2026

At the Tuesday, April 7, 2026, State Water Board meeting, the Board will consider adopting a resolution to return the Delta-Mendota Subbasin back to the Department of Water Resources' jurisdiction. The agenda will be available at least 10 days before the Board meeting and will be posted on the Board Meeting Calendar. The agenda will provide more information on how to participate.
