Childcare Center Lead Sampling Program
The California Department of Social Services (CDSS), in collaboration with the State Water Resources Control Board—Division of Drinking Water (DDW), and under the authority of the State Legislature, require testing for lead in all licensed child care centers (CCCs) in California. In September 2018, Bill (AB) 2370, Chapter 676, Statutes of 2018, was approved by the Governor, adding Section 1597.16 to the Health and Safety Code, requiring any licensed CCC located in a building that was constructed before January 1, 2010, to have its drinking water tested for lead contamination levels on or after January 1, 2020, but no later than January 1, 2023, and every five years after the date of the initial test. The bill requires that the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) make all test results readily available to the public via the SWRCB website. Grants are available to support the testing of drinking water lead levels in licensed CCCs and remediation of lead found in those facilities defined in Section 1596.76 of the Health and Safety Code. This webpage contains the results of completed testing. For more information please visit the CDSS webpage.
