Constituents of Emerging Concern (CEC)
The Constituents of Emerging Concern (CEC) Program is part of the water resilience effort to help optimize California’s limited water supply by integrating ecosystem and environmental water needs with local supply reliability. This program will support statewide source control programs for emerging contaminants that are hardest to treat, not regulated and/or routinely monitored, and have not been adequately tested for human or ecological toxicity. Primary objectives of this program include strategically prioritizing, characterizing and, where necessary, regulating CECs to address their statewide emerging public health and water quality concerns.
This webpage provides a general background on CECs, information, relevant research, reports, and data being collected across the state; announcements for current Water Board events; links to past Water Board events; and links to other state entities implementing efforts on CECs.
