Statewide Advisory for Eating Fish from California's Lakes and Reservoirs without Site‑specific Advice

Statewide Advisory for Eating Fish from California's Lakes and Reservoirs without Site‑specific Advice

A statewide fish advisory issued today for California Lakes and Reservoirs without Site-Specific Advice provides updated safe eating guidelines for fourteen species, including new advice for seven species. This advisory supersedes the previous advisory, which was released in 2013. The advisory has been updated because significant additional data became available. Advice is provided for black bass species, Brown Trout, bullhead species, catfish species, Common Carp, crappie species, Goldfish, Inland Silverside, Rainbow Trout, Sacramento Pikeminnow, Sacramento Sucker, Striped Bass, sunfish species, and Threadfin Shad.

Site-specific advice is provided for each of more than 100 water bodies throughout the state. Today’s advisory does not supersede the advice for these water bodies. However, when the waterbody’s site-specific advice does not cover a given species, today’s advisory can be used for that species.

The California Environmental Data Exchange Network (CEDEN)

CEDEN is a central location to find and share information about California’s water bodies, including streams, lakes, rivers, and the coastal ocean. Many groups in California monitor water quality, aquatic habitat, and wildlife health to ensure good stewardship of our ecological resources. CEDEN aggregates this data and makes it accessible to environmental managers and the public.
